Ship strength is one of the fundamental courses in the naval architecture and offshore industry. The concepts covered in this course is used during most semesters and shares common concepts with civil and mechanical engineering. Study the various theories used to represent beams and get comfortable with solving problems on beam-deflection etc. Pay special attention to concepts on strain/stress diagrams because these are difficult to grasp at the first go. Turn to YouTube to better understand how strength curves are prepared and what each section stands for. It may be difficult at first, but solving as many problems as possible is the right way for this course.
