NSOPDE is used mainly in numerically solving equations that you study from other courses in this department. Pay special attention to the techniques used to numerically compute partial differential equations, and try to remember their names (interviewers love to ask you to explain a certain method). The Jain & Iyengar textbook covers all the concepts you'll need and it is advisable to solve every problem in it before your mid/end sem exams.
